I love to admire and even buy the necessary items and then well, I do a lot of thinking, talking, rearranging etc. Do I make anything, the answer has mostly been a big, fat NO.
I am pleased to say that this time, I have actually taken the concept through to product.
My output, slim though it may be, is as follows. Well, I am pleased to say, I have successfully ticked that box.
My professional assistant (clever husband) sourced our inkjet printer and various papers for our first efforts. We are also testing Reynolds freezer paper for this process. It will be much cheaper.
I have printed covers of 50's and 60's Home Journal magazines. I am using these to etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-47720760404856398502012-10-18T21:58:00.000-07:002012-10-18T21:58:03.071-07:00Printing onto Fabric -- Made in AustraliaI have been thinking about this project for a while. It is linked in reality to other ideas that I have about creating retro-themed products from scratch or "repurposed".
I have a lot of retro-stuff and plan in the coming weeks to set up images using clothing, crockery and other household items, that I can print onto fabric.
These prints, I plan to use for bags, cushions, aprons, etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-1607086332531734872012-08-08T23:51:00.005-07:002012-08-08T23:51:56.348-07:00Fabulous 50s and 60sI have been busy in the "shed" looking through my boxes of clothing.
I found a tiny blue, sunray pleated skirt that I wore at the end of the 60s.
It looks like a skirt for a 6 year old. I cannot believe I was sooo skinny! Lucky to get it over one calf, let alone a thigh.
I have 30+ outfits from those decades. Ranging from XSSW. Some lovely flared skirt dresses.

I have gathered together all my handbags and clothing. I already have my jewellery stored and accessible. For each of those categories, I need to do a lot more category sorting. Like a science classification exercise.
I have to decide whether I will set up an online store or settle for a simple promotion etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-7288551760126290882012-03-23T21:41:00.000-07:002012-03-23T21:41:29.805-07:00First garage sale for agesI haven't posted about any flash trash since October 2011. Needless to say, I have bought many things since then, too busy to write and take photos.
In February, I put the treasures that we bought at the last Double Bay council clean-up on Facebook. Wow, did we find some great things! The car was sooo full, I had to sit with junk on my lap all the way home. It was worth it.
Today, etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-86591104779055318172011-10-09T01:14:00.000-07:002011-10-09T01:14:46.431-07:00Flash Trash Treasures are always there!During my holidays, I usually check all my favourite haunts.
That would be about ten different shops in our area. Some I visit twice, just in case.
This is a shot of the only four crockery items I bought. The rest of my purchases were clothing.
Here we have:
a very cute, little blue glass jug. I have a lot of small jugs, that I hope my family will like, one day???

During that time, I have not totally abandoned collecting the usual "flash trash", but I have certainly reduced the amount I have been buying.
I don't go to garage sales very often now. Just visit the usual opp. shops and only buy things that resemble the bargains of past years.
If it is over $2.00, I have to covet it very much.&etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-62443008821847293992011-04-11T19:21:00.000-07:002011-04-11T19:21:40.187-07:00Garage Sale & Opp. Shop ActionLately, we have been visiting garage sales only very infrequently.
Charity stores and opp. shops are still part of a weekly routine.
As it turns out, we have been able to find some gems. I have not taken any photos of my new treasures.
Best and cheapest buys include:
Australiana in the form of Westminster china
scarves
an English milk jug and some small bowls
some Japanese china etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-2640496116579843262011-04-11T19:05:00.000-07:002011-04-11T19:05:58.062-07:00Companion Blogs - Finding a Way ForwardHard to believe though it may be, after a quite lengthy period of inactivity, I am considering creating a companion blog.
I propose to establish a mechanism to hire out some of my treasures.
I have been thinking of this for a while and need to do some planning and research.
Is there a market for this?
What businesses would be in the market?
What pricing framework would Ietalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-34273724243985310202010-10-07T18:23:00.000-07:002010-10-07T18:23:30.694-07:00From kitsch to collectableFrom kitsch to collectable:I enjoyed reading this article and went straight away to check out my Australiana and Aboriginal ceramic collection. Here's hoping one day ...etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-54214891747220472172010-08-28T23:28:00.000-07:002010-08-28T23:28:23.214-07:00Furniture - Cute Little Side TablesMy Nan had a few of these tables. One was a more complete hall-stand with a mirror and hat hooks.
This one that I was given used to be home to our telephone.
Now it is in the foyer of our new home.
The silk protector on the top was brought back by my Uncle during WW2.
On top, the plates are pink and amber glass.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-3525505539146765822010-08-28T23:12:00.000-07:002010-08-28T23:12:45.168-07:00Nifty Kitchen Canisters - Collecting since my Teens (2)These are the plastic ones I buy, even though I don't use them. I love the little cook face on the white set at the back.
Those were the days when nutmeg and cloves were important enough to be put in separate little containers on your kitchen bench.
These sets always appear in the same colour combinations.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-1634523079940313472010-08-28T23:03:00.000-07:002010-08-28T23:03:46.359-07:00Ornate Crockery Sets - Pretty but not so Practical (1)This is a very cute Made in Japan set. No so pratical but attractive.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-81015266251141213222010-08-28T22:53:00.000-07:002010-08-28T22:53:06.087-07:00Bowls of all Colours (1)This is yet another:
"You can never have too many ..." story.
I find it hard to pass up nice retro mixing bowls.
I have parted with many as gifts for my family.
The pyrex patterned and coloured bowls are quite hard to come by now.
I sometimes use them for serving. This is about half of the collection.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-69646904724151868682010-08-28T22:48:00.000-07:002010-08-28T22:48:57.960-07:00Glassware Galore - Good Price for Waterford QualityThese four glasses, 2 brandy and 2 tumblers, I found at Blacktown Markets.
They were very dirty and wrapped in paper straight out of someone's kitchen cupboard.
I was so lucky to get them for $2.00 each. Another shopper was hovering behind me hoping I would put them down.
No such luck!
I saw the etched Waterford label on the base through the grime.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-41409630974546627762010-07-31T23:39:00.000-07:002010-07-31T23:39:44.286-07:00Australian-Made (2): A Theme that Unites my CollectionsThis is a shot of one of my drawer collections.
I can't fit much more into this one.
Space is truly at a premium!
Most of this crockery is Westminster.
There is a little Snugglepot book there too.
The clothes-brush was a real find.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-47392257303168822212010-07-31T23:27:00.000-07:002010-07-31T23:27:42.170-07:00Water Jugs and Glassware SetsI have lots of water jugs of all shapes, sizes and colours. Several have matching glasses.
I have posted on my amber ones previously.
These two are particular nice. I love all things frosted.
These two are displayed with a few plain glass, patterned ones.
I like to use them at the occasional function we have.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-79906835528661053402010-07-31T23:22:00.000-07:002010-07-31T23:22:13.014-07:00Oroton and Glomesh-Is there anything better? (2)Here are three more of my many bags in black and gold.
I like the ones I have with long metal, over the shoulder straps.
I like to rotate them on the door handles of my display room wardrobe.
These three are in very good condition.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-91238995877798268692010-07-31T23:12:00.000-07:002010-07-31T23:12:53.517-07:00Retro Dress - Blast from the 70sMy sister brought me this great long dress from one of her Prosperpine or Airlie Beach Opp Shops.
It is made from a soft stretchy fabric and has no changes.
So 702, the combination of white, chocolate brown and orange.
I have taken this shot showing one of my furs. A little Cornelius collar shrug. So easy to wear with any coat.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-22605577014666674642010-07-31T02:54:00.000-07:002010-07-31T02:54:21.172-07:00Is Anything Happening?Well yeeees! Do I ever stop shopping for treasures?
Today, as usual, I visited, my two favourite stores in Penrith. Smith Family Boutique and Anglicare.
Well, I found a couple of nifty scarves - French and Italian made and a nice black top with sequin tie.
Not retro.
No piccies this week.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-66228784110599830822010-07-18T01:29:00.000-07:002010-07-18T01:29:26.451-07:00Best Intentions: Shoot after I Shop (9)From this last week of fab. purchases, a dress and more stockings.
This dress is jersey, 70s, front pleats.
Will wear it this week, a $4.00 bargain.
Mocha coffee, ribbed brown and bright blue stockings.
One can never have enough stockings, methinks.etalberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04305021294773995675noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688724365070597987.post-42338239994218591532010-07-18T01:25:00.000-07:002010-07-18T01:25:06.650-07:00Best Intentions: Shoot after I Shop (8)Wow, my Pambula trip was successful!

These two pairs of shoes are laying on a nifty type of hound's tooth patterned skirt, in a lovely fine wool.
The pair on the left are black, patent leather, stiletto, metal heel tip, Jane Debsters with an interesting bow on the back of the heel.
Those on the left are MAB, Italian made, suede with a medium high heel.
